August Sales

August marks the return to school and the end of summer. Some states in the U.S. have tax free weekends too. That means shoppers can save big on office supplies, laptops, summer apparel, and outdoor items that were way too high in prices the previous few months.

Items that go on sale during August include:

  • Airfare — August is typically the cheapest to buy international & domestic flights, so plan those trips ahead of time so the airplane companies don’t gouge you for a weekend or two to get away.
  • School Supplies — The beginning of school in August will mark the chance to buy school supplies like planners, laptops and tablets from Office Depot, Target, Walmart and Best Buy, but make sure you do it early or you might risk running into some empty shelves.
  • Swimsuits — As the summer begins to wind down, retailers will begin to put their swimsuit apparel on clearance so stock up for next year or for the warm weather get-away during the winter.
  • Summer Clothing — Just like swimsuits, clothing department stores will throw their summer outfits on sale to clear way for the fall lineup. Expect cheap, cheap prices from places like eBay, Banana Republic, Macy’s, Nordstrom, Target and Kohl’s.
  • Patio Furniture — Simply because the hottest days are behind us doesn’t mean you still can’t sit outside and enjoy the changing of the seasons with some new, discounted patio furniture. Wayfair, Kohl’s and Target will slash those expensive prices on the tables, pools and chairs you want the most.
  • Lawn Equipment — Garden tools, lawn mowers, leaf blowers and pressure washers will go on sale from Home Depot, and Lowe’s as demand dies down from the summer months.
